Al-Muheb Al-Bakri

Al-Muheb Al-Bakri (1): Sheikh Abu Yahya Muheb Al-Din Muhammad Bin Al-Qadi Ezz Al-Din Muhammad Bin Imad Al-Din Muhammad Bin Sulaiman Bin Yusuf Bin Ya’qub Bin Umar Bin Dawud Bin Musa Bin Nasr Bin Haffath Bin Al-Husayn Bin Yahya Bin Idris Bin Muhammad Bin Ali Bin Saleh Bin Ibrahim Bin Talha Bin Abdullah Bin Muhammad Bin Abdel-Rahman Bin Abi Bakr Al-Siddiq of Cairo was a Shafi’i scholar and resident of Al-Mu’ayyad known as Al-Muheb Al-Bakri. A descendant of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq whose ancestry could be traced back to the tribe of Quraysh, he was born in Cairo in either 782 AH or 785 AH—or possibly later, according to some reports.

Al-Muheb Al-Bakri grew up in Cairo and memorized the Qur’an there. He learned jurisprudence from Al-Shihab Bin Al-Imad, Al-Alaa’ Al-Aqfahsi and Al-Badr Al-Tanbadi. He attended many lessons given by Al-Ezz Bin Jama’ah in his fields of expertise and received hadiths from Al-Wali Al-Iraqi and others. He wrote much of his commentary on Al-Bukhari and other works in his own handwriting. He served as deputy imam of Al-Mu’ayyad. He was a good-natured man of piety and righteousness, an elegant dresser, and a fast composer of poetry who kept to himself. He died on a Monday afternoon, on 13 Shawwal 851 AH. His body was prayed over the next day at Al-Azhar, and he was buried in the desert near Bab Al-Jadid.
