‘Afif Al-Din Bin Abdel-Rahim Al-Jarhi

‘Afif Al-Din Bin Abdel-Rahim Al-Jarhi (1): Muhammad Bin Abdel-Rahim, the grandson of “Abi Al-Makarim” Karim Al-Din Abdul-Karim Bin Kamal Al-Din Abi Abdullah Nasrallah Bin Sa’d Al-Din “Sa’dallah” Bin Jamaluddin Al-Khatib Abi Hamed Bin Abi Al-Taher Bin Umar Bin Khalifah Bin Sheikh Wali Abi Muhammad Abdullah Bin Ahmed Bin Ali, was a descendant of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq whose ancestry could be traced back to the tribe of Taym, a sub-clan of the tribe of Quraysh. Known as ‘Afif Al-Din Abu Muhammad and Abu Al-Sa’adat Al-Jarhi Al-Shirazi, he was born in Shiraz in Rajab of 777 AH and followed the Shafi’i school of thought.

‘Afif Al-Din’s father paid great attention to his upbringing, sending him to acquire ijazas from a number of sheikhs in different locations, after which he began seeking knowledge on his own. He received knowledge of all types from his father and others in Makkah and other places.

Among those ‘Afif Al-Din received knowledge from in Makkah included the Maliki imam Al-Nur Abu Al-Hasan Ali Bin Ahmed Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-‘Aqili Al-Nawiri, Al-Jamal Bin Thahirah, Al-Majd Al-Lughawi, Ibn Hajar, Al-Taqi Al-Fasi, Ibn Al-Jazari, and others. In Shiraz, he received knowledge from Muhi Al-Din Abu Hamed Al-Ghazzali, Nasim Al-Din Muhammad Bin Muhammad Bin Mas’ud Al-Kazaruni Al-Baliani, and Al-Nur Muhammad Bin Abdullah Bin Muhammad Bin Abdullah Al-Aiji. In Kazerun, he received knowledge from Ahmed Bin Umar Bin Muhammad Bin Umar Al-Baliani, and in Aden, from Abdel-Rahman Bin Haidar Al-Dahqali.

‘Afif Al-Din died in his homeland in 839 AH.
