Jamaluddin Ibn Al-Wardi (The Brother) (1): Yusuf Bin Muthaffar Bin Umar Bin Muhammad Bin Abi Al-Fawaris was the Shafi’i jurist, scholar, and imam known as Jamaluddin Al-Ma’arri Ibn Al-Wardi. He was the eldest brother of the famous Zain Al-Din Umar Bin Muthaffar Ibn Al-Wardi.

Jamaluddin was born before the year 680 AH and was regarded as a competent jurist. He taught Judge Sharaf Al-Din Bin Al-Barzi. He held different positions in Aleppo’s judiciary, and was appointed to oversee Aleppo’s affairs as a judge. He was known for his generosity but weak at Arabic. He was also described being tall in stature. He died in the plague of Aleppo at the end of Dhul Qi’dah in 749 AH. His brother, Zain Al-Din Ibn Al-Wardi, said regarding him:

My brother left a good memory of his generosity—

Even if they admonished and rebuked him for that.

His absence has created a memory—

And every brother will eventually lose his brother.
