Muhammad Efendi Al-Bakri Al-Kabir (Sheikh of Sijjada Bakria)

Muhammad Efendi Al-Bakri Al-Kabir (1): Muhammad Efendi Al-Kabir Bin Ali Bin Ahmed Bin Abdul-Munim of Quraysh was a descendant of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, a Grand Sheikh, and the Naqib Al-Ashraf in Egypt. His mother, Al-Sayyida Fatimah Bint Taha Bin Abdul-Razzaq Al-Husaini Al-Hamawi Al-Qadiri, went to Egypt from Hama in present-day Syria accompanied by her brother, As-Sayyid Abdel-Fatah Bin Taha Al-Husaini. There, she married Ali Efendi Al-Bakri and bore him their son, Muhammad Efendi Al-Bakri Al-Kabir.

Al-Jabarti (d. 1237 AH), mentioned Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq’s descendant, Sheikh Muhammad Efendi (d. 1196 AH), saying that he was a highly regarded honorable, humble man who did an admirable job of running the Al-Ashraf Syndicate, demonstrating exemplary leadership and just behavior free of corruption. When his cousin, Sheikh Ahmed, who was the Sheikh of Sijjada Al-Bakria, died, he assumed leadership over both the Sijjada (with the consensus of both the private and the public) and the Al-Ashraf Syndicate, acquiring the honor of both positions.

He only remained in these positions for about a year and a half, however, before dying on Saturday, the tenth of Shaban. Murad Bey then came to his home and stripped Al-Sayyid Muhammad Efendi’s son of his father’s positions at the Sheikhdom of Sijjada Bakria and the Al-Ashraf Syndicate. Once his body was prepared and shrouded, his funeral procession began in Azbakeya and continued to Al-Azhar Mosque, where they prayed over his body amidst a large crowd of people. He was then buried in a cemetery belonging to his ancestors in Qarafa.
