Safeia Al-Bakri

Safeia Al-Bakri (1): Safeia Bint Tariq Bin Sheikh Muhammad Munir Bin Sheikh Muhammad Rashid Bin Dari Al-Bakri is a descendant of the tribe of Quraysh and a citizen of Jordan with Palestinian origins and roots. She is from the Nur Al-Din Al-Bakri branch of the Bakri family in Jerusalem and Hebron. She was born in Jordan in 1979 and obtained a university degree from the Arab Open University in 2004.

Safeia is a member of the Arab Writers Union, the Arab Council for the Gifted and Talented, the Association of Cartoonists, and the Jordanian Writers Society, where she held the position of rapporteur for the Children’s literature committee for two consecutive sessions. She has had exhibits in art galleries and is also a writer, novelist, and short story writer with articles published in local newspapers. Among her other hobbies are writing and illustrating children’s stories and poems for local newspapers and magazines.

Safeia has participated in numerous cultural festivals and events. She has also taken several courses, including a course in the art of short-story writing for children, a course on investigative journalism offered by the Journalists for Human Rights organization at the Jordanian Media Institute, a course in the art of illustrating children’s stories, an “education through journalism” course to train media trainers in AIDS training skills, and a course in Qur’an recitation at the Redwan Center.

She has received many literary and art prizes, including the Youth Creativity Award for Art (2003), a first place award in the Adib Abbasi story competition (2003), a first place award for the play “Princess Babata and the Water of Life” (2007), a first place award in the Jordanian Writers Union story competition (2007), and an award in the “Al-Mu’allim Al-Fannan” competition (2009).

Among Safeia Al-Bakri’s published works are: Rocks of Silence, a series of stories sponsored by the Ministry of Culture; Orange Blood, a series of stories sponsored by the Municipality of Amman; Girlfriends, a series of children’s stories sponsored and published by the Municipality of Amman; the Beneficial Journey children’s series (which includes Journey with a Juice Can, A Tale of Night and Day, Journey with the Seasons, and A Tale of Nature); several plays (including Cooperation in a Bee Hive, The Silver Cat and Asaad the Boy, and What Happened to the Turtle?); and a new children’s series. Other works planned for publication include a novel called A Different Scream and a series of stories called Women Dioxide. Safeia Al-Bakri has written other stories for children as well.
