Abu Bakr Ahmed Bin Al-Ashraf

Abu Bakr Ahmed Bin Al-Ashraf (1): Ahmed Bin Abdel-Rahman Bin Al-Ashraf Al-Bakri Al-Marouzi, also known as Abu Bakr the Preacher.

Al-Samaani (d. 562 AH) mentioned him, saying:

In the book Al-Qand, by Umar Bin Muhammad Bin Al-Nasafi, I read about his lineage (being connected to that of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq), but I don’t know how that could be, since his name was Abu Bakr Ahmed Bin Abdel-Rahman Bin Ahmed Bin Muhammad Bin Esa Bin Talha Bin Muhammad Bin Ali Bin Muhammad Bin Musa Bin Ja’far Bin Muhammad Bin Ali Bin Abi Talib.

This is also how Mahmoud Bin Muhammad Bin Al-Abbas Al-Khwarizmi described his lineage in his book of the history of Khwarezm, which says:

Ever since I was little, I used to hear that the wrong lineage had been attributed to him. He was a Bakri from the descendants of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him—and Allah knows best regarding this matter. His birth took place in Abyord.

He came to Maru and became close to the imam (my father, may Allah have mercy on him). He learned a bit from him, becoming a student of his—and he was very attached to him. He was a skilled preacher and an eloquent speaker, known for his boldness and straightforward manner. He was very well received in the countries he went to, by prominent figures and average people alike.

The first time I met him was in Maru when I was young, when I used to attend the gatherings of hadith, and he used to listen with us. I then met him again after he left Transoxiana, as he had lived for a while in Osh in the Fergana Valley, where he was also very well received. Then I lost contact with him for a while until I met him again in Ray after I left Iraq.
