Ateeq (Atiq), Master of the Sunnah
Ateeq (Atiq), Master of the Sunnah (1): Ateeq Bin Abdullah Al-Bakri, also known as Abu Bakr, was an Asharite preacher called the “Master of the Sunnah.” Originally from Northwest Africa, he was a descendant of Muhammad Bin Abi Bakr Al-Siddiq. He visited Baghdad and died in 476 AH.
Al-Safadi mentioned him in his book Al-Wafi Belwafiat, saying: A virtuous man, he had a pleasant style of preaching and was well-versed in the discourse of the Asharite school of thought (may Allah be pleased with him). He left his homeland and went to Nizam al-Mulk, who spent his wealth on him, treating him with extra generosity and providing him with an ample allowance. He held preaching sessions in both the Nizamiyyah (a theological institution of higher learning) and Al-Mansur Mosque. He was called the “Master of the Sunnah” by the royal court and given money and clothing.
